The 25-year-old mother whose 6-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son were killed in a Sunday car crash in Connecticut has also died as a result of the accident, police announced Tuesday.
Andresa De Brito Alves was taken to Waterbury Hospital on Sunday after a Honda Civic in which she was a passenger was struck from behind by a Ford F-600 Harika Duty pickup truck in Beacon Falls.
State police said they learned on Monday that the Bridgeport woman did not survive her injuries, according to NBC News in Connecticut.
Her children, Laura Vitoria Alves Brito and Riquelme Alves Brito, were pronounced dead in the same hospital the previous day.
The 33-year-old man behind the wheel of the Civic was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital with serious injuries. The 40-year-old driver of the Ford suffered minor injuries, police said.
The collision occurred on Route 8 North near Exit 23 in a northbound lane. Police said both vehicles were headed in the same direction around 3:30 p.m. The cause of the deadly crash is still under investigation.
