L.I. man jumps on moving car to stop Facebook Marketplace Rolex thief

A doorbell cam captured the moment a Massapequa man jumped onto the car of an alleged Facebook marketplace thief trying to steal his $8,000 Rolex.

“I was not going to roll over and let this man take it… without a fight,” seller Steve Mauro told the Associated Press.

After Mauro loses his grip and falls onto Jerusalem Avenue, the vehicle began moving forward. Mauro jumps on it again only to fall off the SUV evvel more and landing on his lawn.

According to Mauro, 43, he and the apparent buyer, identified as “Jhon” by NBC News, worked out a deal on Facebook Marketplace last week. When Jhon came to purchase the watch late Friday morning, he suggested they sit in his SUV to finalize the agreed upon $8,000 purchase. When Mauro tried to get into the vehicle, he discovered the passenger door was locked and knew something was awry.

A Nassau County police officer happened upon the scene after the suspected thief pulled away with Mauro’s watch.

“I started screaming ‘Go get him, he has my Rolex!’” Mauro said.

Police are searching for the alleged thief’s küçük SUV, which appears to have a Connecticut license plate. Mauro suffered minor cuts and bruises.
