Woman, dog found dead in Brooklyn were stabbed multiple times by son: NYPD

Police believe a Brooklyn woman stabbed to death in her apartment was killed by her son, who knifed his mother’s beloved poodle before tossing the pooch off the 11th-floor balcony — and then stabbed himself to cover up the slayings, police said Tuesday.

Cops responding to a 911 call at the building on Hornell Loop near Pennsylvania Ave. in Starrett City around 7 p.m. Friday discovered poodle Gigi dead on the ground outside.

The dog has been stabbed nine times before being tossed from the balcony, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said at a news briefing Tuesday.

In the lobby was the dead woman’s 36-year-old son, identified by Kenny as public school paraprofessional Andre Eugene, naked and covered in blood.

“I don’t need any help, my mother is dead,” Eugene told a retired NYPD officer who lives in the building and came to his aid, according to Kenny. “She committed suicide.”

The victim’s beloved dog Gig was stabbed nine times before being tossed from the 11th-floor balcony.

Eugene has no criminal history and has been employed as a paraprofessional at Public School 17 in Williamsburg for the last 10 years, police said.

On the 11th floor, police discovered Eugene’s mother, 58-year-old Donna Hyman, who had been stabbed 28 times and slashed 27 times — with 26 of the slash wounds to her head, Kenny said. Medics pronounced her dead on the scene.

The 911 call came from Hyman’s panicked sister after the sister received a call from Hyman XX

Eugene was stabbed in the chest, with Kenny referring to the injuries as “hesitation wounds.”

“We believe they’re self-inflicted,” Kenny said of the son’s wounds. “His story is that the dog bit him, he stabbed the dog [and] mom stabbed him.”

Police do not believe the son’s account, according to Kenny.

A city Department of Education spokeswoman said Wednesday Eugene has been immediately suspended.

Eugene is being treated at an area hospital for several shallow stab wounds and a dog bite to his thigh. Police believe his mother’s poodle, Gigi, bit him during the violence. Eugene was initially listed in critical condition.

The victim’s Facebook profile is largely devoted to her dog, with Gigi even serving as Hyman’s profile picture.

“She was always supportive, very close to him,” longtime friend Ed Ferguson, 57, said of the victim and her son. “That dog, she loved that dog.”

Neighbors told the Daily News Hyman got Gigi as an emotional support animal after her husband died six years ago.

The son is in police custody in an intensive deva unit and has not yet been charged in Hyman’s murder.

“It is so sad that this kaç woman — caring, kind interested in life — was to be killed by her own son,” a neighbor who gave her name as Rhea said.

“Her son was handsome and groomed,” she added. “I remember meeting the son, and I said ‘Donna your son is handsome and charming’ she told me ‘handsome yes, charming not so much’ and that line for some reason stuck with me.”
