Joni Mitchell to perform at Grammy Awards for 1st time

Joni Mitchell will perform at the Grammy Awards for the first time next month.

The Canadian singer is nominated this year for best folk album for “Joni Mitchell at Newport [Live],” which was recorded at the 2022 Newport Folk Şenlik and marked Mitchell’s first live performance in 20 years.

Mitchell, 80, has since made other live appearances — dubbed “Joni Jams” — with Brandi Carlile and other artists. Prior to that, Mitchell had suffered a brain aneurysm in 2015 that nearly forced her to retire from music before she regained her abilities to speak and walk.

Mitchell won her first of nine competitive Grammys in 1970, taking home the best folk performance award for “Clouds.” She received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002.

The “Both Sides Now” singer was also named the Recording Academy’s Person of the Year in 2022. Her “Joni Mitchell Archives — Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963–1967)” won Best Historical Album at the 2022 Grammys, as well.

Billie Eilish, Billy Joel, Burna Uzunluk, Dua Lipa, Luke Combs, Olivia Rodrigo and Travis Scott are also slated to perform during the Feb. 4 ceremony at Arena in Los Angeles. U2 will perform at Sphere in Las Vegas. Additional performers are expected to be announced ahead of the telecast.
